Saddleback Educational Publishing was founded in 1982 by Thomas Milano, a South Philadelphia math teacher who noticed his students weren't failing because they couldn't think, but because they couldn't get through the textbook. Working out of his home office and garage, he started tracking down lower-level materials so reading level would never stand between a student and the content.
