How do I find tutors who accept CHOOSE Act funds?

A tutor can be paid with CHOOSE Act funds once ALDOR has approved them as an education service provider, and every approved tutor on the state's list is on CHOOSEActAL. Search tutoring by subject and city to see who is close by, or leave the city out to include tutors who teach online.

Approved first, then the right fit

A CHOOSE Act family cannot pay just any tutor. The tutor has to be an approved education service provider, and that approval comes from ALDOR. The state files tutors and microschools under one provider type and online classes under another, so a tutor who teaches through an online platform can sit in either place.

CHOOSEActAL brings both together under tutoring and breaks them out by subject: math, reading and writing, science, test prep, dyslexia and more. Each listing shows the grades a tutor works with and how to reach them.

What to settle before you book

Most of what makes a tutor right for a student comes out in the first conversation. Ask which subjects and grades they teach and how they adjust for a student who is ahead or behind. Ask whether they meet in person or online, what they charge, and how they take payment through ClassWallet. Then ask how they will show you progress. A tutor who answers all of that clearly has usually worked with CHOOSE Act families before.

How far the award goes

ALDOR lists $2,000 per participating student in a home education program, capped at $4,000 per family. Curriculum is what families on the platform search for most, at 44% of category searches. If tutoring shares the year with curriculum, decide how the award splits between them before you commit to a weekly schedule.
